Qué esperar
Imamura follows survival across a life rather than reducing it to a single decisive event. Tomé's pragmatism exists inside relationships that can exploit her, and her attempts to gain ground do not remove those pressures. The film's span across generations makes it useful to ask how an individual decision is shaped by the conditions around it. Resilience and opportunism need to be considered together, without using either word to excuse coercion.
