Was dich erwartet

David Lean compresses Dickens into bold visual episodes without losing the story’s moral reversals. The marshes, Satis House, and London each give Pip’s changing ambitions a distinct physical world.

Tipps für den Einstieg

Keep Pip’s assumptions separate from what the film has actually confirmed. The adaptation moves briskly, and its strongest clues often arrive through spaces and objects before explanations.

More than Pip becoming wealthy, it hurt me to see him become ashamed of his former self and of Joe. Money does not create the feeling so much as magnify the shame and longing already there. The grander the rooms become, the less he seems to know who he is. What a bitter little irony.
