Was dich erwartet

Von Stroheim surrounds desire with uniforms, rituals, money, and crowded material detail. The romance feels intimate precisely because every social institution is already arranging its defeat.

Tipps für den Einstieg

Hold Mitzi and Prince Nicki at the centre. The elaborate processions and family negotiations are not detours; they show the machinery deciding what private feeling is worth.

Gut zu wissen

Ein kurzer, nicht vollständiger Hinweis Includes sexual coercion, class exploitation, domestic abuse, animal danger, antisemitic stereotypes, infidelity, and forced social arrangements.

The title promises ceremony, but the film keeps asking who the ceremony serves. I watch tenderness appear in small spaces before money and rank reclaim the room.
