Qué esperar

Chaplin risks comedy inside the machinery of the First World War without making mud, exhaustion, or fear disappear. Tiny practical solutions repeatedly compete with the scale of military fantasy.

Cómo entrar en la película

The film shifts between trench routine and heroic dream. Notice how the comedy becomes most precise when the soldier is solving an immediate bodily problem.

The grand mission is exciting, but I remember the flooded bunk and the effort of sleeping. The film understands that survival is often a collection of undignified adjustments.
